Intermediate & Middle School Math & Science Teacher Resolution

February 3, 2017

Greetings Imagine Andrews 5th – 8th Grade Families,

It’s a great day at Imagine Andrews! I am reaching out to provide a much needed update on the mathematics teacher position in 7th & 8th grade. I also want to address the issue of Mr. Connelly being moved from 5th & 6th grade.

In the updates to the middle school parents, I have made it clear that Mr. Connelly would be temporarily placed in the middle school mathematics class until we hire a new teacher. Mr. Connelly is highly qualified and his placement in the middle school class is not a disruption of their learning. As a result of this switch, there has been a substitute in grades 5th & 6th science. We understand that it is urgent for them to receive quality science instruction and we have been working diligently to resolve the shortcoming. The last few months have been a huge challenge with respect to finding a qualified candidate to fill the middle school mathematics position. Although we have interviewed candidates, finding a qualified candidate became a huge hurdle.

In January, we interviewed a candidate. We concluded from the interview that he is a qualified candidate for the position of middle school mathematics teacher at Imagine Andrews. The candidate has been going through the process and he has been hired. He will spend the next week in orientation. On February 10th he will join the Imagine Andrews staff. He will be joining the staff on a professional development day, which is a perfect day to get acclimated. Once he is in place, we will use his first few days for him to collaborate with Mr. Connelly. By mid week, he will be leading the class on his own. Mr. Connelly will resume his position as 5th -6th grade science teacher.

If anything regarding the above plan changes, I will be in communication. I appreciate all of the e-mails & conversations. It shows that our families see the education of our scholars as a priority. Thank you for being patient and having faith in us resolving this unfortunate situation.

I will be sharing the biography of the new teacher within days of his start date. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach me at howard.rice@pgcps.org.

Thank you for your continuous partnership with Imagine Andrews Public Charter School.

Regards,
