Meet Our Staff
Dr. Marquis Dwarte, Principal
Dr. Marquis Dwarte knows firsthand what it means to be part of “a military family.” His father served in both the Marine Corps and the Navy, and the Dwarte family moved from base to base, crisscrossing the country. Although he did not follow his father’s footsteps into the military, Dr. Dwarte did develop an appreciation for the desire to serve. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at SUNY Buffalo, Dr. Dwarte chose a career in education, earning a Master’s degree in Counselor Education at McDaniel College, in Westminster, Md., a Certificate of Advanced Study (School Leadership) from Towson University, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership and Social Policy at Morgan State.
During his career, Dr. Dwarte, who has experience in charter, comprehensive, and alternative school settings, has held teaching and supervisory positions at the middle and high school levels. He has taught classes in counseling, psychology, and statistics and served as an assistant high school principal and a guidance counselor, working closely with military students and families in the S2S transition program. He also worked with at-risk boys at local middle schools, helping them develop leadership and goal-setting skills.
Dr. Dwarte’s many accomplishments include receiving the 2006 Marion Flagg Scholarship Award from the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admissions Counselors, for his contributions to the emotional, social, and academic development of students. He is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Military Child Education Coalition.
