Update on Incident (5.19.17)

Greetings Imagine Andrews Families,

As your partner in education, there is nothing more important than the safety and health of our scholars. That’s why I am writing to share with you a positive update on the threat made against our school earlier this week.

After a swift and thorough investigation conducted by local and federal law enforcement, it was determined that the threat made against our school was a prank. The person has been identified. We are working with law enforcement and within our district policies to determine appropriate disciplinary action.

Families, I want to reassure you that our campus has been thoroughly investigated by base security forces. Our building is clear of any safety concerns and our learning environment remains a nurturing, safe environment for all scholars. I encourage you to use these facts in answering questions or concerns your child may have.

Please also use this as an opportunity to remind your child that actions have consequences, and it is important we keep our school environment free from pranks and focused on academic success.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly. As always, thank you for the privilege of partnering with you to educate your child at Imagine Andrews.

Sincerely,

H. Douglas Rice II, Principal

Update on Imagine Andrews Incident (5.19.17)

May 19, 2017

Greetings Imagine Andrews Families,

I am writing to inform you about an incident at Imagine Andrews.

Parents and students alerted school administrators this morning to a social media post that included a threat to the Imagine Andrews Public Charter School community.

The safety of our students is our top priority. Prince George’s County Public Schools officials, school security and other law enforcement agencies were immediately informed. We spoke with students as well about any information they might be able to provide.

Social media sites do not audit content. Posts may often contain hurtful, inappropriate or distasteful messages. Internet postings generally occur outside of school because of the PGCPS filtering system. However, like most things that happen in our community, the effect of inappropriate online postings can disrupt our school environment.

Please use this incident as a teachable moment with your child. Take time to review the content on their cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices. Discuss the importance of using social media responsibly.

Please contact me at 301-350-6002 if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued partnership and assistance.

Sincerely,

H. Douglas Rice II, Principal
